Civilizations Abroad Programs Application Deadline

Fulfill your year-long civilization studies requirement in a single quarter. Courses are taught primarily by University of Chicago faculty and carry no language prerequisite, other than for the civilization sequences taught in French and Spanish. You also study a local language.

Applications for the College’s 2026–27 Civilizations Abroad programs (ALL quarters/locations, Summer 2026 through Spring 2027) are due on Monday, January 26, 2026, before 11:59 PM Central Time. Late applications cannot be considered, so please plan ahead.

IMPORTANT: Civ applicants should only submit one application to your first-choice program. You have the ability to rank up to 4 additional Civ abroad selections as alternate choices when submitting. (You have a better chance of being admitted to a Civilization program if you rank alternates.) However, programs cannot be selected as alternates if you began (or at least opened) an existing application to your alternate selection(s) in your account. Please email studyabroad@uchicago.edu before Monday’s deadline if you have opened an application to a program you would prefer to rank as an alternate.
