Finances

Financial Aid

Participants remain fully registered in the College and retain their merit and need-based institutional financial aid eligibility while studying abroad in a College-sponsored study abroad program during the regular academic year (autumn, winter, or spring). Participants in summer College-sponsored programs are eligible for need-based financial aid, following the procedure described on the Summer Financial Aid page of the Financial Aid website.

Program fees are taken into consideration in determining the financial aid package, and since students cannot be expected to work part-time while abroad, their financial aid package does not include a term-time work requirement.

All students who receive need-based financial aid will receive a $1,200 stipend to assist with airfare for their participation in a College-sponsored study abroad program. The stipends will be disbursed in the quarter prior to the quarter the student will be studying abroad (i.e. in the autumn for students studying abroad in the winter, in the winter for students studying abroad in the spring, in the spring for students studying abroad in the summer, and in the summer for students studying abroad the following autumn quarter or academic year). Support for these stipends is provided by the Odyssey Scholarship program and generous additional support from the Strongin Family Fund for Students with Financial Need: Goldman Sachs Gives, the Shelby Cullom Davis Charitable Fund, the Francis and Rose Yuen Hong Kong Study Abroad Scholarships, the Bernard J. DelGiorno Study Abroad Scholarships, the Ferdinand Stern Study Abroad Scholarships, and Nai-Kong and Irene Cheung.

Odyssey Scholars will also receive financial aid to cover the study abroad administrative fee of $675, disbursed at the start of the term that they study abroad. (All students are expected to pay the $50 deposit toward the administrative fee at the time that they accept a spot in a study abroad program. Odyssey Scholars will later receive funding for the full $675 admin fee in order to cover the initial $50 deposit as well as the remaining $625 that is charged on the tuition bill for the term that they study abroad.)
